Please note that if you want me to do a performance or hold a workshop with your school/company that I have public liability insurance and an enhanced CRB check.

In 2007/08 I became Birmingham’s Young Poet Laureate and by doing so I am the only male in the whole country to ever be a ‘Young Poet Laureate’. Poetry is something I love doing and I’m committed to make this my career. I have currently worked at a lot of schools and libraries all over the midlands and have had great response from all. I have been performing spoken word/slam poetry since 2007 and holding workshops since 2008. I have worked with several poets, story tellers and musicians across Birmingham and have had a great connection with them. Being a boxer also helps me appeal to a vast range of young people. Teenagers that I have worked with always comment that they didn’t expect me to be a poet by my appearance and thoroughly enjoy the sessions. I feel I have a great interaction with young people and get them inspired to write great pieces of work. I always try to give them poetry tips and explain what ways I feel are the easiest ways to write a poem. I have judged many poetry competitions, the BBC radio 4 poetry slam and the BBC ‘off by heart’ project as well as having the privilege to host the Birmingham Young Poet Laureate final. I don’t just work with one type of school. I have worked with many different types such as private schools, primary and secondary schools, schools for excluded children and special need schools as well as working with foster children in their foster homes. In April 2008 I appeared on channel 4’s TV show ‘3 minute wonder’ discussing the anniversary of Enoch Powell’s controversial river’s of blood speech and performed a commissioned poem on the subject. In February and July 2010 I performed along side hip hop, mobo award winning artist Akala. At the beginning of March 2010 I was flown over to Indonesia to do work with a British international school for world book week. The young people were fascinated by how much fun poetry could be and once I returned home I had 20+ rhyming emails from the young people thanking me and wanting me to come back again. A week after Indonesia I performed a commissioned poem to my biggest audience to date of 5000 at the world badminton championships at the NIA. I have taken part in a workshop with the BBC and wrote a short drama script for them. I am also one of the faces advertising Birmingham’s new library which I am very proud of. Kerrang radio have approached me to do a ‘summary of the week’ section on their show. Between October and December 2010 I will be touring around England performing in 5 different cities which I am very excited about! On top of this I am looking to combine the boxing with the poetry and hold a poetry / boxercise workshop with young people.
